The Dolomites

A Triple Crown: Dolomites, Prosecco & Valpolicella

Trip Notes:

Hiking Level of Difficulty

This is a more challenging hiking itinerary, particularly the first three days, which are in alpine country. During this portion, we will be on well-marked mountain paths; however, no technical gear or mountain-climbing skills are required. (Walking sticks and hiking boots are recommended.) You will be on trails that gain elevation, so be prepared to climb and descend. In the Dolomites, there is no van support. The second half of the tour is in wine country, so it’s much easier, with rolling terrain typical of Italian vineyards. Here there is van support on some hikes.

Venice or Milan

Pre-tour

Plan to land in Italy at least a day before the tour begins; that’s necessary to be at our starting point on time.

Meeting point

Our meeting point is 9 A.M. at the train station in Treviso, a small town just 30 minutes north of Venice by train. We recommend spending the previous night here, although you can also take an early-morning train from Venice.

Departure day

On our final day, we can provide a shuttle to the Verona train station after breakfast.

Trip extensions

Venice is the obvious choice for a pre- or post-tour excursion. Book your hotel early, as they fill up!

Weather

When packing, check check www.weather.com. Go to “Belluno, Italy” and “Verona, Italy” to get a general idea of temperatures and forecast. In June, expect daytime temperatures to average in the upper 70s and nighttime to hover around 60º.
