Venice to Amarone

Amarone, Soave, and Italy’s Northern Renaissance

Trip Notes:

Airport

Although Verona has a small, national airport, the closest intercontinental airports are Venice (Marco Polo) and Milan (Malpensa). The fastest train from Venice to Verona takes 1 hour; from Milan, it’s 1hr20min. (See link to TrenItalia below.)

Pre-tour

Plan to land in Italy a day before the tour begins; that’s necessary to be at our starting point on time. You can spend the preceding night in Venice, which is our pick-up point. For hotel suggestions, consult a good hotel search engine, such as TripAdvisor or Venere.

Meeting point

Our meeting point is Venice at the Piazzale Roma at 9:30 a.m. (Details will be spelled out in the information packet.)

Departure day

On our final day, we’ll shuttle you to the Verona train station [map]by 11 A.M.

Italian train schedule

Click here for an English-language version of TrenItalia. Be aware that the schedule is posted only several months in advance, so if you're looking for long-range dates, try something sooner, just to get an idea of departure frequency and trip length.

Trip extensions

Venice is the obvious choice for a pre- or post-tour excursion. Book your hotel early, as they fill up!

Travel insurance

This is recommended to protect you from needless loss caused by last-minute cancellations, lost luggage, and more. One source is Travelex Insurance: www.travelexinsurance.com, (800) 228-9792 (please use our compay code: 21-0043 LDV).

Weather

When packing, check www.weather.com. Go to “Verona, Italy” to get a general idea of temperatures and forecast. In September, daytime temps average around 75º and nighttime around 55ºF, so it’s comfortable, but jacket weather at night.
